An art history community.

Art has been the medium of expression for all of humanity since the dawn of time. From the Caves at Lascaux, estimated to be up to 20,000 years old, to Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds in 2010, humans have utilized art as a medium to promote fertility, establish authority, provide commentary on social issues, or simply, to make something beautiful. Just as lyrics to a song impact the way we see ourselves and the world, art has the ability to profoundly impact our sense of self and other.

The Art Historian aims to share the beauty of art and artists, and in turn, build a community of individuals who appreciate a way of life that has persisted for thousands of years. Through daily doses of art and art history, this blog provides an understanding how pieces were made, why they were made, and their impact on the world.
